- Course Description
This course delves into the complex landscape of contemporary American politics through the lens of race, racism, and “whiteness.” By examining pivotal events like the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests and the January 6th Capital riot, students will explore the dynamics of racial backlash and solidarity among white Americans. Using interdisciplinary perspectives, topics in this course will cover the evolution of “whiteness”, racial attitudes, identity formation, and the potential emergence of white anti-racism. Central to this course is an analysis of how whiteness influences individual behavior and collective action. The structure of the course emphasizes student interaction by focusing on class discussion and small-group activities.
