The Collins Soup Bowl Benefit is an annual fundraising event that helps support our service-learning course, Spring Break for Kids. Collins Student Government’s Philanthropy & Action Council and Collins LLC’s Arts Council combine forces in this philanthropic effort each spring. This year’s soup bowl benefit took place on Friday, April 12th, from 8:00pm-9:00pm in the Dottie Collins Commons.
This year, PAC co-chairs Natalie Page and Aryana Amin-Tehrani along with Arts Council ceramics coordinators Meghan Stanley and Dani Tapia Roman organized volunteers who helped make over 50 bowls in the Collins ceramics studio to be sold for the event. Bowls were of all shapes, sizes, and colored glazes so attendees had a wide selection to choose from at the event. Groups of students from SustainCollins and ACT Humanities had a special impact on this process by organizing to go together to studio open hours to create bowls for this year’s Benefit.
Attendees who purchased a bowl (at $5 or by bid in a passive auction available before the event began) also had the opportunity to enjoy delicious soup during the event. Hillcrest residents and Collins staff members came out in force to contribute seven soup options to choose from for the event! The event was a great success with nearly all of the bowls and soup disappearing before the event's end and the $376.36 raised at the event to support spring break activities for children at The Rise!
