Jello 3: The Jellening Event

Collinsites enjoying a gelatinous buffet. Goodman Murphy-Smith

Jello 3: the Jellening was the long-awaited recapitulation of Collins’s jiggliest event of the year! On September 11th, 2023 Collinsites gathered to enjoy a gelatinous buffet.

CC, or Community Council, is a Collins organization primarily tasked with scheduling events that happen within the LLC, among other things. The history of these CC-affiliated Jello events goes all the way back to May of 2022, where the 2022-23 CC chair, Amy Stafford, conducted their first ever CC after having just been elected. Given that it was the last CC meeting of the year there wasn’t much for the newly-hired CC chair to do, so some of the CC attendees filled out space request forms as badly as they possibly could. The winner of the  most incorrectly filled-out form was Heather Ahmenn, who proposed an event centered around eating Jello with suspended gavels in it (CC has a gavel because it’s the coolest council). When the time came for Amy to officially start their reign as CC chair in fall of 2022, it was obvious that a gavel/jello event would be the most befitting of a CC opening ceremony.

The Jello made for that event had a so-called “edible gavel” suspended in it, which was a potato and carrot gavel-esque object that was covered in chocolate. There was also a sizable amount of edible glitter in the jello that gave it a very grainy texture. To spare you the even gorier details of how it looked and tasted, let’s just say that only one attendee could be convinced to try it.

The second Jello event was the “closing ceremonies” of CC for the fall 2022 semester, but also Weston Kilgore’s (a Collinsite beloved by all) birthday. So, in an effort to make the Jello more edible, the choice of suspended object that round was Wes’s fruit snack of choice, Scooby Doo.

Earlier this month it was time to crown a new CC chair, the incomparable Zoe Bogan. In keeping with tradition, Bogan held a beautiful Jello-centered opening ceremony to kick off a new year of CC. This year’s festivities were much more edible this year; there was no “gavel” in the Jello, only glitter. The official CC gavel was present, though. The event was a smashing, gelatinous success and will hopefully mark a stress-free, fun-filled reign for Bogan this year!
