Collins Community Goes Virtual

Stain glass rendering of gnome holding a lantern

The Collins community lives on!

In this time of social distancing and lockdowns, we are all learning that community really can still thrive when it is online. Over the decades, the students of Collins have built a powerful and deep community that is more than the beautiful buildings we live and work in. Now, we want you to know that Collins is still here:

  • Gnome News will continue to appear on Mondays.
  • Gnome News will include a link to the Collins Columns (now in a digital version only) each week. Look for news about the weekly theme, and send in your contributions by Saturday, midnight. See below for next week’s theme and have fun with it!
    • Next week’s theme: Field Guide: Teach us what you know about native flora and fauna! Share your observations of, and art inspired by, the campus landscape. People watching as well as bird watching is encouraged! Draw us shitty maps with good outdoor places to hang out. What are the identifying markers of campus and Bloomington? What marks our home as IU and IU as our home? What will you miss most about the physical landscape of life on campus in the coming weeks? Anything you think belongs in Collins' IU Field Guide.
  • Arts Council and BOEP will continue to meet and will have elections.
  • BOEP will be reviewing course proposals, and conducting interviews as planned April 13-16. Any student is welcome to join!
  • Arts Council will be hiring for open positions.
  • The annual publications will appear. Please respond to the email requesting your mailing address.
  • We’d like to have an online Collinsfest: please tell us (and your student leaders) about ideas you have.
  • Awards night is important too; we’ll have plans for this as well.
  • Seniors: we aren’t forgetting about you, so prepare your Collins stories in keeping with tradition!

Most importantly, we hope you are well and staying safe and sane. We know the rest of the semester will bring many new and unexpected challenges. but if you are having trouble coping, don’t hesitate a second to let your roommate, friends, instructors, advisors, and us know! We are still here to help. You might find this compendium of advice and resources about physical and mental health useful.

Never has the Collins motto meant more: Home is where the gnome is! So give your gnome a squeeze.

Your Collins LLC staff.
