Introduces and explores the emerging field of BioArt, the intersection between Biology and art. Provides an introduction to the foundations of scientific method/scientific practices and basic biological concepts. Addresses big picture ideas such as accessibility and ethics within Biology/art/BioArt and Critical Making. Offers an interdisciplinary space for discussion, reflections, readings, and creative experimentation. Topics and experiments include Drosophila genetics, “bio-fashion,” microscopy art, etc. Trips to locations such as lab spaces on campus, the Biology Building Greenhouse, the IU Hilltop Gardens, and the Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Museum of Art will be offered to explore the idea of “living laboratories” and what a hypothetical BioArt labspace could look like.
