As we all know, times are hard. Increasingly, active students struggle to find the funds needed to stay at Collins. To help, we have set up scholarships, which empower students to take on worthy projects that increase the sense of community within Collins and Bloomington.
If you are able to do so, please consider supporting this initiative by donating to the Ralph Collins Living-Learning Center Educational Fund. |

New Staff Welcome
Director: Dr. Carl Ipsen
Dear Collinsites: If I haven’t already, let me introduce myself. First of all, I took over as Collins director in July after seven years of careful stewardship by Ellen Dwyer. I don’t arrive with dramatic plans for changes at Collins (though one way or another a new building is somewhere in the future). I guess if I have a philosophy for this position it is: let Collins be Collins. My own background is as an historian. I have been at IU since 1994 and done most (all really) of my work on Italy where I have enjoyed extensive research trips over the years. You can find out more about me here.
My main purpose in including this note in the newsletter relates to the Collins 40th anniversary celebration planned for May 11-13, 2012. Hopefully I’ll meet many of you there. I’d also like to put together a committee of alums to work together with me, Lindsay Bugher (assistant director), and Wil McCall (residence manager) to plan the event. We have gotten clearance to offer housing at Collins. If you are interested or want to offer suggestions, please contact me, Lindsay, or just Collins.
Sincerely,
Carl Ipsen
Professor of History
Director, Collins LLC
Assistant Director: Lindsay Bugher
Dear Collins Alumni: As the assistant director, I will work with you on alumni relations initiatives, event planning, and creating gift agreements that benefit our students here at Collins. I am very excited to work with you all, and encourage you to contact me if you have any qustions or suggestions you would like to pass my way. We're looking forward to another great year, and hope to see you all at the alumni reunion in May!
